No two jounce bumpers are alike in that there are an infinite number of ways to design an effective jounce bumper. However, there are some basic guidelines that when adhered to, ensure a durable and cost effective design. Material alone will not guarantee success of the jounce bumper system. Material choice is an integral part of the system, but the use of good engineering design principles will have an enormous affect on driving out the cost of the jounce bumper system from the beginning of the design process. Practical jounce bumper design at the beginning of the development process will result in lower manufacturing costs, lower reject rates, better ride and handling, and higher durability. Driving out the cost and designing in the quality from the start of the development process is the key to better products and lower prices.
