Among the many varieties possible of solid film lubricant systems for sheet metal strips, the hot-melt drylubes are believed to offer properties closest to the current automobile production process and to require the least investments for application. Uniform coatings to the desired thickness can be obtained by hot spraying. The waxy consistency eliminates migration within coils; it thus maintains the correct homogeneous film weight and the correct tribological conditions during pressing. Drain and run-off from pressed parts during storage and transport will not occur. The new technology of hot-melt drylubes has been shown to be easily incorporated into the series production process following comprehensive laboratory investigations covering performance tests including rust protection and lubricity as well as compatibility tests with adhesives, sealants and paints, welding and removability.
