This paper deals with techniques to reduce the CFIT (controlled flight into terrain) accidents and improvement in flight safety and also deals with the instrument landing system (ILS). The ILS involves several low power radio transmissions. The ILS localizer-coupled system steers the aircraft automatically to the runway and minimises deviations from centre-line path. Glide-path Coupled control system is also discussed in this paper. Automatic landing system and automatic flight control system with diagrams of "flight trajectory" and "rotation of aircraft during flight" are given. The microwave landing system (MLS) and location of MLS transmitters are described. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is the principle satellite navigation system for aeronautical use.
