The accumulation of the negative charge by electrically active PO 32+ ion-radicals of the electron type in the phosphate glasses was studied using electron spin resonance spectroscopy. It is shown that magnesium is the most efficient alkaline earth metal modifier. It is established that the results obtained allow one to design compositions and technology of inorganic glasses with a given performance, particularly, used for radiation shielding of spacecraft.
