The actuators for vehicle control are currently improving, with fast and linear torque response. One typical example is an electric vehicle (EV), which has electric motor for wheel driving. This paper points out the advantages of such actuators clearly with our experimental studies on EV. These advantages can be classified into three categories: 1) fast feedback approach for wheel skid prevention, 2) lateral stability enhancement with minor feedback loops in driving motors, and 3) road condition estimation with accurate motor torque value. This paper describes that vehicle lateral motion can be stabilized, when fast feedback controller is applied for driving wheels. Some experimental evaluations are carried out with the 'UOT Electric March II', which is novel four wheel motored EV.
