This paper demonstrates in a simulation study the potential and requirements for an active lateral suspension control for utility vehicles with the objective to reduce and to improve the roll behaviour of the vehicle. The proposed control directly exploits the (external) gravitational forces acting on the vehicle system. Due to the reduced roll motion, the proposed control yields also an improvement with respect to the longitudinal and lateral force potential of the tires, resulting in a reduced vehicle slip angle and better overall handling capabilities.
