With the development of standards for automotive passenger restraint firing and Sensor bus Systems, the need for integrated bus compatible initiators has became evident. The firing bus systems like the BoTe System from Bosch and Temic (three pin initiators, Daisy Chain architecture) or the SURFS System from Siemens (two pin initiators; parallel architecture) and the B/S/T firing and sensor bus system based on a development by Bosch, Siemens and Temic (combined Daisy Chain and parallel architecture) are to be mentioned in this respect. An advantage of the bus systems is the increased flexibility as they can be introduced on a new carline by just adding the additional components and a reconfiguration of the bus master. An important component for a firing bus system is besides the bus master, the integrated bus compatible initiator. This paper is focused on the cooperation project IBA (Integrated Bus compatible Initiator) and shall give an overview about the results achieved during the project. The cooperation project itself was initiated on January 1st 2000 and last until December 31st 2002. Several project partners of the cooperation project IBA are involved.
