The acceptance of lasers in the automotive industry is strong, and the European manufacturers seem to have taken the lead over U.S. and Japanese competitors. Especially the German manufacturers have taken the technology to their hearts, and rumours say that Volkswagen will present a completely laser welded body version within five years, DaimlerChrysler hits also shown a large growth of laser applications during the first years of the new millennium. Furthermore, the long proven reliable roof laser welding technology at Volvo Cars is now being transferred to the rest of the Ford group, and the first result of this will be seen on the Ford Taurus successor, which SOP (Start Of Production) will be during the autumn this year.
