A walking aid device for the aged persons has been developed and tested. The purpose of the study is to develop a wheeled frame which can provide the mobility and balance/support of a human body, including rehabilitation of walking function for the aged persons. In these times of increase of aged persons, there must be held the ability of self-mobility, that is the ability to walk by themselves as long as possible in the aged period. The system is assumed to apply to the persons who can walk a little but with difficulty. It supports the subject's body at the armrests, and the sensors detect the distribution of the forces on the frame to control locomotion of the device and its user. For forwarding, the system recognizes the walking intension of the person based on those data, and the two actively controlled wheels proceed the body so as to move the non-supporting leg forward to take a step. Another control to keep support of the person's body is also performed. The implementation and experiments have shown the effectiveness of the system.
