To restore the axial load carrying capacity, a circumferential welded joint is strengthened by a cylindrical coupling made of a metal or a glass plastic. In this case, it is efficient to use thicker couplings of a material with a high modulus of elasticity along the generating line of the pipeline, in comparison with the parent metal. The width of the coupling should be such as to ensure that the resultant tangential stresses in the material of the adhesive layer do not exceed the shear resistance. An algorithm has been developed for the graphical-analytical determination of the parameters of the repaired structure in relation to the geometrical characteristics of the effects in circumferential welded joints for a wide range of the combinations of materials of repaired couplings: from elastic glass plastic to pipe steels. The algorithm makes it possible to evaluate the width and length of the couplings and also the shear resistance of the adhesive layer, securing the coupling to the pipe.
