A patented safety restraint for children travelling in automobiles has a weight, which the inventors intend should be placed across the lap of the seated child who may well have a sensory disorder, describes US Patent 6383130. It is claimed that application of deep pressure helps meet a need for additional sensory stimulation and assists in calming the child, enabling it to focus better. The new type of pad is rectangular and it is suggested it be divided into four equal sections by seaming. The four hand-washable individual, soft pliable plastic pouches may be weighted with water. The inventors say that this is an unobtrusive and selfregulating means of calming children.
