In this paper, new concept electric vehicle 'KAZ' is introduced, and its key technologies are mentioned. 'KAZ' is an 8-wheel all wheel drive electric vehicle developed by the research of Electric Vehicle Laboratory Keio University. 'KAZ' achieved high performances superior to existing cars, for example it achieved maximum speed 311 km/h. This was brought by technologies applied for 'KAZ' such as direct drive system and Tandem suspension. This direct drive system uses Nd-Fe-B magnet motor, and other components are developed to achieve compactness and high efficiency. While weigh of this direct drive system is 40 kg, 8-wheel relieve the problem of heavy unsprung mass that direct drive system has. Direct drive system promotes the method of module-based design. So it will be of help to spread electric vehicles.
