In recent years, Tecnatom has developed a range of configurable control system equipment for robots and manipulators, known as SIROCO, for use in component inspection systems in electricity generating plants and in the aeronautical sector. As the new generation in this range of equipment, and with the objective of improving the capacity and ease of operation of inspection systems, the SIROCO-3D project is being developed. This will provide a 3D software tool to address monitoring, simulation and control applications in complex operating environments, composed of robots, manipulators and components in general. The areas of application may be enlarged, although the most typical will be robot-operated inspection systems (nuclear and aeronautics sectors), robotics, the assessment of operating environments and in general any application in which simulation and/or control with 3D display is required. This article describes the functionality of this application and the advantages that will be provided from the point of view of the development and operation of control systems for inspection.
