With its innovatory Drive concept of operation and display, BMW provides the new 7-Series with a new direction in cockpit design. Here, the task of driving is separated in position from the other comfort functions and all secondary functions, e. g. navigation and entertainment, are combined in a central display with a displaced operator's control, the Controller. By a forceful reduction of switches and control elements this concept permits an ergonomically optimal arrangement of all operator controls and displays and thus enables entirely new freedom in interior design. The concept iDrive therefore offers optimal concentration on driving, whilst at the same time making the highly complex arrangement of comfort functions available very easily and intuitively. In this way iDrive has managed more than ever before to allow the driver to keep his concentration for what moving a BMW is ultimately about: the pleasure of driving the ultimate driving machine.
