Discusses increasingly stringent marine environmental legislation, and the ZeeWeed ZenoGem membrane bioreactor technology from Xenon Environmental Systems of Canada, which provides a solution for onboard wastewater treatment requirements. The ZenoGem process is proprietary Zenon technology that consists a bioreactor integrated with ZeeWeed hollow fibre ultrafiltration membranes. The membrane system replaces the secondary clarifiers and sand filters of conventional activated sludge treatment. The treated water is almost potable and can be used re-used for other shipboard water systems.
