The barrier mechanisms and properties or polyethylene (PE), PE/polyamide (PA) and PE/modified PA (MPA) drink bottles when exposed to paint solvents are studied. Further, the barrier properties of these bottles against the permeation of pure main solvents contained in paint solvents are investigated to understand the permeation mechanism. The paint solvent resistance improves dramatically after blending PA and MPA barrier resins into PE matrices during blow molding. The permeation rate of PE/MPA bottles filled with white spirit/acetone are shown.
