A battery charge regulator is presented for spacecraft applications where battery operating voltage is around the spacecraft bus voltage. The chargers presently employed are of buck, boost topology which process the entire output power resulting in more power loss. The new charger overcomes this drawback by delivering the bulk of the charging power directly from bus processing only differential power. The power converter consists of a push-pull phase controlled DC/DC Converter with centre tap floating on the bus and capability to adjust the voltage either +ve or -ve depending whether battery is above or below the bus. This charger finds applications in GEO spacecrafts where electronic chargers are required to operate in battery over the bus and battery below the bus configurations. The principle of operation, hardware realisation and test results are presented.
