This paper presents a new kind of Maximum Power Point (MPP) Tracker for Solar Arrays. Due to its advantages of simplicity and high efficiency over established designs, the Weinberg MPPT will favour the incorporation of maximum power-point tracking into both GEO and LEO satellites. The advantages of the design compared to standard GEO designs has been quantified as an example. The power gains that may be made with this concept are large. Typical uses for the extra power may include to reduce battery cycling and hence wear-out for electric propulsion systems; then to supply additional payload at BOL, for example in LEO constellation or GEO telecomms systems where satellites must be launched and replaced on a quasi-continuous basis and last to run additional experiments on Earth-observation or scientific satellites. Furthermore, this extra power is gained with the 3D minimum of design modification to existing S3R regulators and introduces simplicity, mass and cost savings compared to classic 'old' MPPT topologies.
