Pressure waves produced by explosions of combustible mixtures formed by the accidental spillage of fuel gases have attracted considerable attention from the safety point of view. In order to assess damage caused by such explosion hazards, real-scale experiments are necessary. However, it is often difficult to perform such experiments because of space limitations and experimental safety. Small-scale experiments are preferred if an appropriate scaling law can be verified. The objectives of this study are to elucidate the decay processes of planar blast wave initiated by deflagration and detonation waves in a tube and to assess the applicability of the energy-based scaling law to these phenomena.
