In an effort to improve the quality of software and take advantage of Lessons Learned, Ford Motor Company has created a generic list of software requirements to help prevent software design errors, mistakes and faults from being delivered to our customer in our vehicles. There are a total of 56 requirements that have been partitioned into nine categories: Determinisms and Interrupts, Microprocessor Set-Up, Microprocessor Selection, Design and Coding Practice, EEPROM Management, Hardware Interface, Diagnostic Trouble Codes and Software Monitoring, Input Debounce, Sleep/Wake (low power mode). Ford's intent of publishing these requirements is to provide a basis for an SAE Recommended Practice. Ford's goal is to encourage the software community to participate in the development of a recommended practice that can benefit all software developers. These particular requirements were developed for Automotive Body Features. Ford has already implemented the listed requirements and design review process. These and other software requirements now apply to all body module computers in the 2004 model year programs.
