The measurements show, that a realistic calculation of glare illuminances shall apply a model to calculate the amount of indirect glare reflected by the road. Especially for wet conditions, the portion of indirect glare hag a significant impact on the results. An accurate modeling of wet roads is challenging, as puddles are irregularly located on the road, but are influencing the results of calculations. In addition, the optical properties of the front screen have to be regarded in simulations. During the approaching process in a curve, the transmission of the front screen is changing due to Snellius law. A factor, which should also be regarded in simulations, are assumptions about the view behavior of the glared observer to apply an appropriate weighting of the calculated illuminance E due to the glare angle theta. While a bending light function equipped with GDL results on wet left curves in higher glaring illuminances Ethan for a non-swivelled case, a swiveling of the headlight in right curves will reduce glaring illuminances. The Adverse Weather Function (A WL) can reduce significantly the glare effect. A comparison of different systems to realize an Adverse Weather Function will be published in a further paper.
