In a time when expected new regulations expand the applications of front lighting a modular system with simple mechanisms provide an easy way to adept existing headlamp designs to new functions using existing exchangeable light sources. In the foreseeable future new concepts like Pixel-light, Night vision systems and remote lighting systems using light guiding elements will compete to fulfill ever changing styling and performance requirements. Of these light guiding systems with flexible light guides will find its niche and can be based on existing serial production of flexible light guides for secondary functions like position lamps. In the long run the front lighting development cycle will result in new light sources and it is presently a not so daring guess that solid state high power LED's in combination with special free form lenses and nanomotion elements can generate more and more front lighting functions resulting in a new freedom of car design, better pedestrian protection and service free lamps.
