All-stainless-steel railway carriages now account for half of all carriage production in Japan. The latest carriages are built employing a single grade of stainless steelmaking them 100 % recyclable with ease. They are considerably lighter than ordinary steel carriages and even lighter than aluminum-alloy carriages. As a result, their energy efficiency is higher and impact on the environment lower, and they offer a host of other advantages such as reduced car and rail maintenance and longer service life.
