Millimetre-wave (77 GHz) forward-looking automotive radars (car radars) for Automatic Cruise Control (ACC) and for obstacle avoidance are expected to appear in the millions during the next decade. The technology of these small, cheap and sometimes quite intelligent radar sensors can be expected to make a great impact also outside the automotive field. There are several potential alternative applications. Several of these applications deal with civilian or military surveillance. Most alternative applications stress the sensitivity and the angular resolution and accuracy of the radar sensor. The work done at the former CelsiusTech Electronics with signal processing and presentation for some of these applications is illustrated.
