Stresses in the ship hull during the collision with a rock were estimated. Description of the crash phenomen and an assessment of its effect was based on both numerical and analytical integrations of the equations of the hull movement modelled by a linear-elastic thin-walled beam. According to the elasto-plastic material model and the finite element method, the loads resulting in a permanent deflection of the inner bottom plating of the cargo hold were determined from the model.
