Major Brazilian exporters of soy beans such as Cargill and Bunge are developing facilities along the Amazon river which will increase the flow of soy from the north and north-east of the country. The growth of soy production in Brazil's center-west and north-east regions means a steadily increasing proportion of exports leaving from ports in the north. Emerging as Brazil's leading exporter of soy beans is Cargill, which has started building a new terminal at the Amazon river port of Santarem. Further gains in productivity, which have accounted for most of the increase in yields in recent years, can be expected as well.
