For improving the reliability of main bearing in large 2-stroke marine diesel engine, it is indispensable to clarify the actual crankshaft alignment and to estimate the influence of the alignment on main bearing. It has been studied to develop the criteria for crankshaft alignment. Firstly, a theoretical calculation model has been developed to simulate dynamic journal movement under uneven alignment between two adjacent main bearings. By comparing with measured journal movement results, the developed theoretical model can simulate the movement with high validity. Secondly, for efficiency usage of the developed model, a theoretical model for static crankshaft deflection has been developed to calculate the deflection under uneven alignment between two adjacent main bearings. Finally, a prediction of crankshaft alignment is proposed based on measured crankshaft deflection results. The developed model for static crankshaft deflection is able to predict the crankshaft alignment related with the result of measured crankshaft deflection.
