The MMS (Mobile Servicing System) will play a critical role in the on-orbit assembly, external maintenance and operations of the International Space Station. The mission and tasks to be performed by the MSS on the Station are reviewed and an overview on the design of the MSS is provided. Several examples illustrate how the mission requirements have shaped the design features of the MSS.
