Whiplash injury of the cervical spine is still a major issue in traffic safety. The study gives an overview on the latest research in the field of trauma-biomechanics of the neck under conditions of low-speed rear-end impacts. Furthermore, an approach is presented to analyse the behavior of the pressure inside a blood vessel of the neck. The finite element method was used combining fluid dynamics (CFD) and structural mechanics (CSD). Results of the study indicate a characteristic pressure pattern which consists of an initial pressure drop, followed by an increase. This observation is in agreement with experimental results obtained from animals as well as cadaver tests.
