Several extensive corrosion studies, one of which includes twenty-four years of outdoor corrosion, demonstrate that today's electroplated nickel/chromium automotive trim can maintain its decorative appearance for well over ten years. Accelerated corrosion studies were conducted to correlate with outdoor corrosion. Information from these studies can be used to develop decorative nickel/chromium electroplating systems that will exceed the requirements for the North American automotive 10-year, 150000-mile vehicle.
