In May 1999 the first public filling station for liquid hydrogen was taken into service at Munich Airport. The filling station operates fully automatically and initially it will supply a fleet of vehicles with hydrogen that are used in special service at the airport an in the BMW vehicle feel. For this purpose vehicle, refueling and robot technologies have been consistently further developed and integrated in the framework of the hydrogen Project Munich Airport. As part of this project, supported by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economy, Transport and Technology, 13 partners are examining the hydrogen energy chain extending from the generation of hydrogen through logistics up to the operative applications in vehicles.
