In resent year, the speed up of ship is advanced in the world. And, in Japan, the way of the transport is to be shifted from land transport to seaway because the amount of the land transport is limited due to the traffic congestion and environmental pollution. Therefore, the requirements of high-speed vessels with lightweight and high efficient machinery are increasing. Especially, high-speed and high power engine as the main engine is increasing also. To cope with that requirement Niigata Engineering Co., Ltd. had developed and supplied high-speed diesel engine, V16FX type engine and V26FX type engine, as the main engine for high-speed vessel, passenger ship, car ferry and etc. At this time, Niigala developed V2OFX type engine. V20FX has 205 mm bore and simple structure with only two high performance turbo-charger. And it was achieved mean effective pressure 2,5 MPa, mean piston speed 12,1 m/s, maximum output 250 kW/cyl. at 1650 rpm.
