Composite materials offer a wide range of applications in aerospace structures. Combined with integrated active components like piezoelectric actuators the design of active structures producing nearly any kind of deformation is possible especially in combination with elastic couplings of the anisotropic structure. Because of the use of aerospace structures in a wide temperature range also the thermoelastic behavior of such structures is of interest. On the example of thin-walled composite beams containing elastic couplings the complex piezoelastic behavior of thin-walled structures are analysed theoretically and verified with numerical results. The results are governed by using a modified beam theory which allows the consideration of active or reactive strains in contour direction and thus inplane warping effects caused by internal actuation or external mechanical and thermal loads. Parametric studies of those beams with open and closed cross-section shows the basic effects and physical coherences of their structural behavior. At least the thermopiezoelectrical analogy allows conclusions for the thermoelastic behavior of such structures.
