NEXPLO Bofors AB has scaled up the production of guanylurea dinitramide (GUDN) which FOA came up with a process to. GUDN is a substance with good mechanical sensitivity and stability properties and a good oxygen balance. Based on GUDN Bofors BEPAB AB has developed a family of propellant formulations of which BeG 77 is the one desinged for hybrid gas generators. By altering the formulation the propellant can be adjusted for other types of gas generators. The BeG 77 has a very constant burn rate as a function of pressure due to a low pressure coefficient of 0.3. The burn rate is 55 mm/s at 30 MPa. The BeG 77 has been tested in different hybrid systems and with very low emission values. Due to a high gas yield even a small gas generator can inflate large airbags.
