The construction and operating of underground networks generally require major excavation, which does not fit well in the urban landscape. Both the public and local authorities show increasing unwillingness today to put up with the disturbance engendered by worksites. In this context GAZ DE FRANCE initiative on fast, unobstrusive working methods seeks to minimize inconvenience of excavation works on public roads by reducing frequency, scale and duration of such operations. Also because excavation and refurbishment costs represent a large part of gas operation costs, the techniques developed under this initiative will reduce costs. This paper presents the equipment developed by GAZ DE FRANCE, specifically for service lines laying, and gives a field example, with overall cost analysis.
