The threshold stress intensity (KISSC) of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) for a steel with (in weight-%) 0,39 C, 0,05 Si, 0,05 Mn, 0,001 P,0,001, <0,002 S, 1,1 Cr, 0,3 Mo, and 0,08 Ti or 0,12 in 3,5% sodium chloride (NaCI) solution decreased exponentially with the increase in the yield strength (s), (i.e., KISCC = 1.38 x1000000 - 8.26 x 0,001s. The threshold stress intensity of hydrogen-induced cracking (KIH) during dynamical charging of the steel decreased linearly wiith the logarithm of the concentration CH of diffusible hydrogen, (i.e., KIH = 31,3 - 9,1 ln CH. This equation was also appiicable to SCC of the high-strength steel in aqueous solution. The criticai hydrogen enrichment concentration necessary far SCC of high-strength steeL in water, decreased exponentially with the increase in the yield strength. Based on the resuit, the relationship between KISCC and the yield strength (s) could be deduced as KlSCC = ak- ms , where a can be determined according to the formulars for the elastic sress field for a sharp notch and k and k and m are factors depending on the compositions and microstructure of the steel as well as the test conditions.
