All methods presented in this paper have to be implemented in the quality management system to become a standard part of the 'Total Quality Management System' (TQM) and of general practice during all product life cycles. The idea of continuously improved quality and the responsibility of quality assurance are shown by the authors. To realise this task and to reach the goal of excellent quality,the quality management system has to establish the application of standardised methods for quality and reliability assurance; this includes the nomination of responsibilities and deadlines. Additionally, the proceeding in-time has to be controlled during internal quality reviews and audits. Using examples and data from automotive practice, these models for quality and reliability assurance are presented as a global conception for all project periods and are applied in practice. Although the presentation focuses an electronic control units, all these methods can easily be extended and adapted to other automotive components. Finally, the models and methods presented are very practicable and are indispensable for quality and reliability assurance during definition, development,testing and manufacturing.
