At present, there is a consensus about the need to improve the vertical situation awareness in order to reduce the risks of controlled flight into terrain. During the workshops organized with the airline pilots in order to define the future cockpit characteristics, and in the internal studies made in Airbus Industrie, a list has been identified of what are the pilot's needs in this area. The possible solutions of such needs have also been identified.
