Inspections are generally carried out to reveal time dependent deterioration and damages. One such inspection tool, the Probabilistic Inspection Analysis (PIA) tool, makes it possible to systematically include the information achieved by inspection of the actual as well as other structures. It provides information as to where and when to perform inspections to detect fatigue crack growth and thus initiate repair actions that are found to be necessary. Traditionally used to recommend the frequency of EC/MPI inspection for welded structures, PIA is now being used to define inspection programs based on flooded member detection (FMD).
