Subsea electrical connectors are now commonplace for low voltage data communications with subsea control modules, sensors and actuators. This technology is now being applied to higher power applications, feeding electrical power to a variety of pumps, separators and pipe line heating systems. This article details the advances in materials, connector design, testing and analysis which have been addressed to support voltages to 36,000V and current up to 1000A.
