The new developed stainless ship steels containing up to 0,03% C and over 0,2% N are amagnetic and in corrosive environment show better service properties than traditionally produced stainless steels. Nitrogen inhibits formation of secondary phases during sensitizating ageing and welding of HNASS (High Nitrogen Austenitic Stainless Steel). Quantity of N which can be introduced into HNACSS depends mainly on their chemical composition, kind of nitrogen carriers used and technological procedure of their solution in the alloy. It was found that products made of the high nitrogen (N > 0,25%) amagnetic corrosion resistant alloys (HNASS type 00H21AN16G5M4Nb) acquired in discussed here tests some especially desirable compositions of new combinations of important and expected physico-chemical characteristics as well as mechanical, technological and service properties exhibited also in extreme working conditions. New HNASS could be considered an alternative to nearly equal to 6% Mo-steels and nickelbased alloys in shipbuilding.
