Following a short introduction on the characteristics of N:YAG lasers and lasersystems, latest developments in pulsed and continuous wave (cw) lamp-pumped as well as diode-pumped Nd:YAG lasers are presented. Increased laser output power and beam quality combined with high standing times of latest Nd:YAG lasersystems have spurt the development of new applications for Nd:YAG lasers and also increased the productivity of well established applications. The description of process basics for laserwelding and -cutting leads to more detailed descriptions of several highly productive and flexible applications. Such are laserwelding and -cutting in the automotive industry with multi-kW cw Nd:YAG lasers and spotwelding of electronic parts as well as material processing of microstructures with pulsed Nd:YAG lasers. Numerous marking applications in various industry sectors ranging from electronics to packaging and serial number engraving with diode pumped Nd:YAG lasers will also be presented. An outlook will summarise future developments in both laser- und process technology.
