Excalibur Engineering have laid plans to build a novel twin hulled vessel designed to provide a safe and cost effective approach to the removal of large oil and gas offshore platforms. Called the Pieter Schelte, it will be able to decommission platform topsides up to 42,000 t and jackets of up to 25,000 t. The main feature of the vessel is the twin 125,000 dwt tanker hulls which provide the basis of the catamaran type vessel. These giant twin tanker catamaran hulls provide a safe and extremely stable platform for handling structures of immense weight and size. Its good motion behavior guarantees the regular occurrence of sufficiently large weather windows for reliable planning of the removal operations.
