New offshore supply vessels, ordered by Norwegian Simon Mokster Shipping of Stavangar, feature unique Cat 3500 engine diesel electric drive systems. These engines offer 13 % more power, 7 % improvement in power to weight ratios and 7 % improvement in fuel economy. 'Stril Supplier' which was built by Dutch YVC Ysselwerf near Rotterdam and where a sister vessel is still under construction, features two Cat 3516B (69 1, V 16) electronic engines each rated at 1825 kW (2281 kVA; 2533 hp) and two Cat 3512B (51.8 1, V 12) electronic engines each rated at 1360 kW (1700 kVA; 1906 hp) in a package which allows Mokster to use the engines in any combination according to performance requirements. The Cat engines deliver electric power via Siemens generators to two duo-prop Aquamaster azimuth main propeller thrusters at the stern, a single prop Aquamaster azimuth thruster forward an a single KaMeWa tunnel type bow thruster as part of a system which provides extremely high levels of manoeuvrability, in line with the requirements of a modern platform supply vessel. 'Stril Neptune' (2900 tdw; 2 x 2710 kW) is a sophisticated smaller but stronger version of 'Stril Supplier' (4200 tdw; 2 x 2200 MkW). The ship is scheduled for delivery late in October 1999. Because of its power plant, it is likely that the new Mokster vessel will be able to operate successfully and efficiently in all but the most severe sea states in the North Sea.
