Aim of the present paper is to discuss key factors for improvement in panel dent-resistance when the bake-hardenable steel is used. In this work this problem is dicussed through metallurgical view. Mechanism of dent resistance by using bake-hardenable steels is discussed through metallurgical examination in strain age-hardening. To show a sharp yield point or straight elastic modulus in baked panel is a key of dent-resistance. This is caused by a simple locking of dislocations after stamping with dissolved carbon. This process proceeds just after stamping and by baking below 120 deg C. The bake-hardenability measured by uniaxial tensile test is an index of dissolved dissolved carbon, but the 0.2% offset yield strength of panel is not an index of dent-resistance.
