Cambridge Consultants Ltd. have developed and tested two model based control strategies for engine idle speed. Their results show that an adaptive mechanism with appropriate jacketting can be used to improve the performance of a predictive idle-speed controller particularly during load disturbances. They have also demonstrated that CPower can be used for the rapid development of new control methodologies without the cost and effort normally uncurred when building and testing new engine systems. Another benefit of CPower is the greater flexibility in the selection of control algorithm and engine specification.
