Full-scale antenna patterns have been taken at the nasa to determine the absolute gain as a function of spacecraft aspect angle. the flush-mounted antenna system consists of four cavity-backed helices that are mounted 90 grad apart around the maximum radius point of the cone-shaped command module and associated selection switches. A description of the test setup, measurement techniques, and computer analysis is given. for optimum switching, the percent coverage at a perfect right-circulary polarized isotropic level is found to be 80 percent of the sphere or greater for each configuration tested.
