An evaluation program has been completed that defines the temperature measurement 'precision' of thermocouples used for measuring metal temperatures of cooled jet-engine turbine buckets. the technique evaluated consists of embedding smalldiameter, metal-sheathed thermocouples in grooves cut into the surface of the turbine buckets. A test program was chosen which would simulate the high heat flux and thermal gradients which exist within the buckets. the sheathed thermocouples tested were embedded in grooves in the outer surfaces of tubes. the processes of embedding were identical to applications in turbine buckets. Sheathed thermocouples brazed into other grooves in the same tubes were designated reference-form thermocouples.
