Military services are pressing efforts to improve the accuracy, flexibility and reliability of emitter detection and location techniques as a necessary step for more effective weapon delivery and reconnaissance. the practice of outfitting tactical aircraft of all types with selfcontained sensors to warn of radar threats, which proved invaluable in countering russian-built surface-to-air missiles in vietnam, is now being extended in several programs to facilitate attacks against targets detected by passive ecm equipment.
