Sperry rail service operates a fleet of test cars to check 130000 to 150000 miles of tracks for flaws annually. Semiautomatic ultrasonic systems were incorporated into the induction system raising the efficiency of detector cars therewith. Defect information is recorded on photographic tape. Association of american railroads has built two types of rail testing systems: Both are magnetic systems. Equipments are described in detail.
